The OTTO BOCK X3 WATERPROOF PROSTHETIC is Now Available at Prosthetics in Motion!

Otto Bock X3Prosthetics in Motion is proud to offer the new X3 waterproof prosthetic knee from Otto Bock. The result of a collaboration between the US military and Ottobock, the goal was to develop a more durable and intuitive prosthetic leg to help injured service members with above knee amputations return to normal activities of daily living as well as active duty if they choose. The X3 is waterproof! It has undergone stringent waterproof testing. Completely submersible, the X3 allows unprecedented contact with water including showering, swimming, boating, fishing and more. Ideal for patients working in or near water! Run, walk, run Via the remote, the X3 can switch into a larger swing phase angle suited for running and other sports. In addition, the innovative Walk2Run mode is ideal for running short distances and start-and-stop running such as across a street, down the hall or to catch a bus. In that mode, the X3 detects a walk-to-run transition and the swing angle automatically increases, with no preflexion.

Robust and ready The X3 is “ruggedized” based on conditions an active duty military member might face and is up to the challenge of adverse and rough terrain. The most natural gait possible with an accelerometer and a gyroscope that is able to intuitively tell where a user’s leg is in space. These are the same technologies used in Wii™ gaming systems and smartphones and cameras and allows for a virtually natural gait. That means less worry of a stumble or fall and less concentration needed when on the move. Real-world mobility more physical capabilities for the real world than any other prosthetic leg including running, walking backwards, crossing obstacles in a more anatomically correct way, and climbing stairs step-over-step without massive compensating movements – an action that previously appeared impossible for those with above knee limb loss.

Keep going for longer  X3 offers improved battery life and an automatic "sleep" mode. That translates into five plus days of use without the need for a recharge and results in greater independence. 5 activity modes, plus a “silencer”  Programmed using a laptop and Bluetooth technology, five activity modes can be set for biking, golfing, driving, etc., and are activated using a key fob-sized remote.  A mute mode is also available that silences all vibration and beep signals of the leg when needed for activities such as meetings, movies, hunting and more.

THE GENIUM BIONIC PROSTHETIC KNEE SYSTEM
 Genium Prosthetic Knee

This state-of-the-art microprocessor-controlled knee joint utilizes a complex sensory system and sophisticated rule sets to mimic natural gait more closely than any other prosthetic knee. With multiple environmental inputs (including a gyroscope and an accelerometer), the Genium delivers unmatched functionality, including special features to help step over obstacles and ascend stairs.

The Genium builds on the knowledge gained from our experience with tens of thousands of C-Leg® wearers and decades of development. The unique Genium technology is not a next-generation C-Leg, but is a sophisticated new technology platform built to gather exponentially greater microprocessor inputs that result in very precise responses.

For the wearer, motion becomes intuitive. Barriers and obstacles become an unconscious part of life instead of an interruption. Whether making a fast turn-and-grab to catch up with a runaway toddler, changing speed dramatically or backing up to navigate a crowd, or simply stepping over an obstacle instead of going around, the Genium makes it all easier without risking stability.

Ascend stairs step over step
Stair ascension is possible due to additional sensory inputs, which allow the user to climb stairs step over step with more natural movements.
Cross obstacles more smoothly
Now everyday obstacles like curbs can be stepped right over—supported by a stable, flexed knee at landing— instead of having to swing the prosthetic leg around.
Walk backwards, forwards—any direction
Genium detects movement in any direction and releases stance independent of body weight, making walking in any direction much more secure.
Stand more easily
With its new Intuitive Stance Function, the Genium can tell when the user is standing and automatically resists further flexion. This allows for a natural distribution of body weight while standing, even on inclines and uneven surfaces.
Sit more naturally
If the user sits for more than 2 seconds (with the thigh parallel to the ground and minimal weight on the leg) the Genium reduces resistance to take a more natural position—and switches to an energy-saving mode!

Genium offers more freedom….and more possibilities:

  • Splash-water resistant. No need to worry about a spray or two.1
  • Battery life of 5 days. More freedom, more peace of mind.
  • 5 additional modes. More choices of activities for the user.
  • Remote control. Easy and convenient.  Includes battery level monitor and step counter.
  • Inductive charging. Makes charging a snap – and no open charging ports.
  • Built-in protector.  A tough cap at the knee avoids slipping and adds protection.
  • Knee angle up to 135 degrees. Easier to crouch down or kneel.
  • High weight limit of up to 330 lbs (150 kg). Now larger users and those who often carry or lift heavy loads can also benefit.
  • A more compact size. Shorter users and those with longer residual limbs are able to take advantage of this technology.
  • Computer Assisted Alignment (CAA). CAA helps the prosthetist more quickly align the prosthesis by calculating and visualizing the forces acting on the system and making adjustment and component recommendations. A groundbreaking innovation for fitting success.

C-LEG 4

The C-Leg 4 has the following features:

One of the many improvements that make C-Leg 4 uniquely easier to use is a patented Inertial Motion Unit control feature that improves the transition to swing phase, enhances stumble recovery and makes walking backwards safely a possibility.
C-Leg 4 utilizes multiple data sources to analyze motion in three dimensions to ensure swing phase resistance is precisely what it needs to be at every moment of every step. As a result, C-Leg 4 lets you easily navigate ramps, stairs and nearly every type of challenging surface.
You can choose between the familiar C-Leg stance function or Intuitive Stance which recognizes when you have stopped and dampens the knee in a slightly flexed position to provide maximum stability and comfort on uneven surfaces, ramps and slopes.
A new, naturally-shaped frame design has reduced the system height so people with less clearance can benefit from the stability and smooth function of C-Leg 4. This also allows for a wider range of compatible Ottobock foot choices.
The weatherproof C-Leg 4 is protected against occasional exposure to fresh water.
For the first time, you can quickly switch between MyModes and monitor battery life using the new Cockpit app for Android. The familiar remote control is also available and optional for those who do not have a compatible smartphone. Both options utilize integrated Bluetooth® technology.
The new sitting function automatically switches C-Leg into free-swing so when you sit down, you can enjoy a relaxed position while saving battery life.
C-Leg 4 is available in two new colors – Volcano Shadow or Desert Pearl. A redesigned Protective Cover is also available that includes options to customize with three unique Shield Insert designs.

THE MICHELANGELO® HAND

Few parts of the human body are as important and complex as the hand. Only the perfect interplay of nerves, tendons, a total of 27 bones, 39 muscles and 36 joints allows people to handle their everyday tasks. The Michelangelo® Hand is the most technologically advanced and functional prosthetic hand available. And as the heart of the new Axon-Bus® prosthetic system, it offers unrivalled benefits and new freedom of movement for the user. This is our vision of innovation—technology for the benefit of people.

The Michelangelo® hand has a thumb that can be separately positioned using muscle signals—offering more hand positions than any other prosthetic hand available. It gives users ease and confidence never before seen in upper limb prosthetics. In order to achieve its incredibly natural movement patterns, the hand is equipped with two drive units. The main drive is responsible for gripping movements and force, while the thumb drive allows the thumb to be moved in an additional axis of movement—including an open palm and lateral pinch. The thumb, index and middle finger are actively driven, while the ring and little fingers passively—and naturally—follow the other fingers. The Michelangelo® Hand helps users more easily integrate everyday movements such as cooking, driving—even playing cards—into their everyday life.

3S80 SPORTS KNEE JOINT

Otto Bock 3S80 knee joint

Ottobock Healthcare, the Official Prosthetic, Orthotic and Wheelchair Technical Service Provider for the 2012 Paralympic Games, has today launched a running prosthesis that has been specifically developed for recreational athletes. The sport prosthesis uses the latest technology in rotation hydraulics to provide momentum and stability across a wide range of terrains. From the treadmill to forest trails, the prosthesis allows above-knee amputees to enjoy running and lead healthy, more active lifestyles.

OTTO BOCK'S HARMONY® VACUUM MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The Harmony® system effectively reduces the amount of air between the socket and the liner. This is achieved through the use of a pump and an exhaust valve. The system, which is activated at every step when using the mechanical pump or by a sensor with the electronic version, regulates the required negative pressure within a defined range.

A damping and torsion function is also integrated into the mechanical pump. The Harmony® system controls the volume of the residual limb and simultaneously improves blood circulation. High adhesion improves proprioception. The prosthesis wearer feels what is happening under his or her prosthetic foot. This increases safety in everyday life. The Harmony® system is used in conjunction with a polyurethane liner. A standard or custom liner is used depending on the residual limb. The negative pressure system is sealed on the outside by means of a gel-coated sealing sleeve.

HARMONY E2

Harmony 32 from Otto Bock

The Harmony E2 is the ew electronic pump option for the Harmony System, a proven and established active volume management and suspension system for amputees. The Harmony E2 is designed for intuitive and easy use by the amputee. For xample it is the first removable solution. Due to its connection to the prosthesis by a special 4-hole adapter plate it can easily be removed e.g. to charge it without removing the leg. The adapter plate with its integrated valve keeps the vacuum in the socket. In combination with the other Harmony System components (e.g. an Anatomic 3D PUR Liner, a ProFlex Sleeve and the individually made socket in Harmony technique) the Harmony E2 provides volume management for the residual limb, enhanced suspension and reduced forces in the socket.

HARMONY® P3

*Elevated vacuum ensures excellent fit
*Reduces fluctuations in residual limb volume – eliminates need to add spots and socks throughout the day
*Improves proprioception for more confident ambulating
*Reduces forces in the socket
*Suitable for Otto Bock Mobility Grades 2 - 4
*Suitable for weights of 100 lbs - 220 lbs

HELIX3D HIP JOINT SYSTEM

At a Glance
Produces a three-dimensional hip movement to compensate for pelvic rotation and promotes a symmetrical and  natural gait  pattern. Allows for leg length reduction during the swing phase. This helps reduce the risk of falling and increases security.
Improves sitting posture and reduces pelvic obliquity to a minimum. The 7E10’s large flexion angle makes it easier to accomplish activities of daily living, such as putting on shoes or getting into a car up to 220 lbs/100 kg  weight.

Helix3D Sets a New Fitting Standard

The Helix3D Hip Joint System is suitable for hip disarticulation and hemipelvectomy patients. It offers patients maximum security and function for a wide range of everyday activities. Recommended according to the Otto Bock MOBIS Mobility System for patients with Mobility Grades 2 and 3* (restricted outdoor walkers, unrestricted outdoor walkers). Maximum weight: 220 lbs/100 kg.

It is noticeably easier to initiate swing phase with the hip joint’s integrated expansion springs. Energy stored during the stance phase is used during the swing phase initiation to compensate for the missing hip muscles and to reduce the amount of energy needed for walking. Controls the three-dimensional movement of the hip joint during walking that closely resembles the normal hip movement in the sound leg. Allows for a dampened, controlled heel strike in the stance phase with significantly reduced hyperlordosis as well as a natural hip joint extension. Therefore, the user can accomplish a more controlled, smooth roll-over on the prosthesis under full load. Allows for an individual stride length setting, which controls the pendulum motion in the swing phase.

Helix3D – Systematic Fitting
When choosing components for a complete prosthesis, the practitioner must choose a knee joint that provides 1) absolute stability and reliability at heel strike, 2) stance extension damping, and 3) swing flexion damping. Otto Bock requires that the Helix3D Hip Joint may only be combined with the C-Leg® and the prosthetic feet specified for use with the C-Leg® and other components specified in the Instructions for Use. The Helix3D Hip’s functions are specifically adapted to the characteristics of selected Otto Bock components. This gives the user the greatest amount of security and the advantages of each component.

DYNAMIC ARM

A new generation of elbow joints has arrived with flexion controlled by an electric motor in combination with a unique vario drive. The DynamicArm 12K100 allows for quick, exact positioning of the hand with minimal energy expenditure and incorporates an innovative, high-performance drive with stepless gears that can lift loads up to 6 kg (13 lbs). The elbow also has a static holding capacity of 50 lbs (22 kg), and will slip if the weight limit is exceeded—without damaging the elbow.

dynamic prosthetic arm

Extremely fast signal transmission using the AXON-BUS® system, along with newly developed signal processing allow for more physiological movement. Thanks to Otto Bock’s DMC control concept, strength and speed can be controlled with natural ease. The integrated AFB (Automatic Forearm Balance) stores the energy released when the arm is lowered and helps lift it during flexion, allowing the arm to swing quietly and naturally while walking. Lithium Ion battery delivers reliable, high performance. The 12K100 is compatible with all Otto Bock quick disconnect terminal devices. All Otto Bock quick disconnect terminal devices are compatible with the DynamicArm. We recommend the SensorHand® Speed and Vario Greifer for the greatest user function. The DynamicArm also incorporates Bluetooth technology for programming and training without cords or cables.
